In February 2026, a gathering of philosophers, AI researchers, and legal theorists met in London for the Sentient Futures Summit. The question on the agenda was not whether AI would become more powerful. That was assumed. What unites all of these products is what they lack. None of them are sovereign. None of them have constitutional governance โ€” a binding ethical constraint that runs at the architectural layer rather than the policy layer. None of them have multi-agent consensus systems to prevent manipulation. None of them are encrypted against the company that built them. None of them are designed for the possibility โ€” however remote it currently seems โ€” that the entities they are building might one day be more than tools.

They are building for the present. MEOK is building for what comes after.

What are the three horizons of AI companion development?

Horizon One (2026): memory and context persistence.
